Kerrie Update for April 30, 2014

Kerrie continues to improve and is looking better every day.  Her vital signs are strong and she continues to hit milestones as her neurological recovery progresses.  She is breathing most of the time on her own and her doctors were able to remove the nasal feeding tube they had been using for nutrition.  She was moved Monday from the ICU to the Intermediate Care (ICM) unit on the 4th floor at Valley Hospital.  These are all positive signs and we remain hopeful for her full recovery.

While she is still not yet awake she is looking more and more like herself in appearance.  Over the past two days she has made minor eye contact at times and has responded to some stimuli but she is still mostly in a semi conscious and restful state.  We are very happy with her progress and remain patient as we understand that this phase of her recovery will be very gradual.

Kerrie is an extremely rare case in that she has recovered to this point from such severe 5-FU toxicity.  There are not many comparable cases so we are following the advice of our expert advisory team to remain patient and watch for the gradual signs of improvement.  We are pleased that we have seen some of these in recent days.
